Bennie E. Bowlin, a 62-year-old White female from Rogersville, Tennessee, tragically lost her life on Saturday, October 25, 2014. On that day, deputies from the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence on Tuggle Hill Road after receiving a report of someone banging on a door followed by a loud pop. Upon their arrival, they discovered Bennie Bowlin deceased in her kitchen from a gunshot wound.
The investigation into her death quickly revealed that she was not the
only victim of the violent outburst. A short time after her mother was shot, Bennie's 38-year-old daughter, Kathy Ramos, was also shot, though she ultimately survived her injuries. The subsequent investigation led authorities to identify 56-year-old Darries Leon Jackson of Morristown as the perpetrator of the shootings.
Darries Leon Jackson was arrested and faced a series of serious charges, including first-degree murder for the death of Bennie Bowlin, attempted first-degree murder for the shooting of Kathy Ramos, aggravated child endangerment, and reckless endangerment. In February 2022, the case against Jackson went to trial in Hawkins County. The evidence presented during the trial was compelling enough for the jury to find him guilty on all charges. As a result of his conviction, Darries Leon Jackson was sentenced to life in prison, bringing a measure of legal closure to the family for the devastating loss of Bennie E. Bowlin.
