Anthony Louis Woods, a 35-year-old African American male, was a dedicated member of the Memphis Police Department. On August 27, 2003, Officer Woods responded to a domestic violence call alone at approximately 7:20 PM. Upon entering the residence, he encountered a male suspect who had already shot a woman inside, wounding her in the arm and leg. A struggle ensued between Officer Woods and the suspect, during which Officer Woods was shot twice in the head and twice in the shoulder.
