In the early morning hours of February 17, 2017, the life of 65-year-old Margaret Swearengen came to a tragic end in her Memphis, Tennessee, home. Police were dispatched to a residence on Thrushcross Cove at approximately 3:41 a.m. in response to a report of a wounding. Upon entering the home, officers discovered Margaret, a female, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
Further investigation at the scene led to the discovery of a second individual, 57-year-old Thomas Swearengen, who was
also deceased. Thomas had sustained a single gunshot wound. The Memphis Police Department investigated the case and determined the incident to be an apparent murder-suicide.
No arrests were made as the sole suspect was also deceased. Margaret was remembered by her family as a compassionate and creative woman, a gifted artist who found joy in sharing her work. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose life was cut short in an act of violence that also claimed the life of her suspected killer.
