In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 21-year-old D'Arrah Gordon was tragically cut short. On October 14, 2023, gun violence erupted at a short-term rental property located on Madison Avenue, near the vibrant Overton Square. The residence, which had been rented through an online platform, was the scene of a gathering that neighbors described as a noisy party with a large group of people, predominantly women.
Sometime after midnight, the celebratory
atmosphere was shattered by gunfire. When Memphis Police Department officers responded to the call, they discovered that a woman had been shot. D'Arrah Gordon was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The incident left the surrounding neighborhood unsettled, with residents expressing concerns about the disruptive and sometimes dangerous activities occurring at short-term rental properties in their community.
In the days following the fatal shooting, the Memphis Police Department identified a suspect in the case. A warrant was issued for the arrest of 19-year-old Kyla Jones.
