In the spring of 2016, a senseless act of violence cut short the life of 18-year-old Tierney Reid in Memphis, Tennessee. A Black female, Tierney was returning to her Southeast Memphis home on the night of April 10th with her older sister, Melanie, when their lives were irrevocably altered. An unknown assailant approached the two sisters and opened fire, unleashing a hail of bullets that would leave one sister fighting for her life and the other succumbing to her injuries.
The sudden
burst of gunfire shattered the night's quiet, leaving a scene of chaos and tragedy. While Melanie was wounded in the attack, she ultimately survived the ordeal. Tierney, however, was not as fortunate. She tragically collapsed at the end of the hallway inside their home, her life slipping away before she could be saved. The young woman, remembered by loved ones as a sweet girl who was a friend to everyone, was pronounced dead.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Memphis Police Department launched a homicide investigation, diligently working to identify the person responsible for Tierney's death. Despite their efforts and pleas to the public for any information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case, the gunman has remained elusive. To this day, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Tierney Reid, leaving her family and community still waiting for justice.
