In early March of 2008, the city of Memphis, Tennessee, was rocked by a horrific discovery at a home on Lester Street. Inside, police found the bodies of six individuals, including 22-year-old Shindri Roberson. The scene was a brutal one, with evidence of multiple gunshot wounds marking the violent end to the lives of four adults and two children. Three other children were found clinging to life, having sustained severe injuries.
The investigation into what would become known as the 'Lester Street Massacre' soon revealed a domestic dispute that had spiraled into an unimaginable tragedy. The adult victims were identified as Cecil Dotson, 30, his girlfriend Marissa Rene Williams, 27, Hollis Seals, 33, and Shindri Roberson. The two deceased children were Cecil's young sons. The crime scene had been deliberately altered, with drugs placed on the bodies in an attempt to mislead investigators.
The sole perpetrator of this heinous act was Jessie Dotson, the brother of Cecil Dotson. The motive for the mass murder was an argument between the two brothers. After shooting his brother, Jessie Dotson proceeded to execute everyone else in the house to eliminate any witnesses. He shot the adults and brutally attacked the children with knives and wooden boards.
Jessie Dotson was arrested and ultimately confessed to the murders. In his confession, he detailed the events that transpired in the house on Lester Street. Following a trial, he was convicted on six counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. For his crimes, Jessie Dotson received six death sentences and is currently on death row at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, Tennessee.
