Willie Clarence Coe, a 78-year-old Black man from Memphis, Tennessee, died on September 12, 2012, after a life that had carried him from Mason, Tennessee, into decades of work and service. He was known as a retired truck driver and an Army veteran, rooted in a large family as the oldest of eight children born to Willie and Martha Coe.
