In the quiet community of Richwood in southeast Shelby County, Tennessee, a tragedy unfolded that would leave a family and community searching for answers. On the evening of October 29, 2024, deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 7800 block of Shadowland Cove following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered the body of 31-year-old Ta'Lesha Farmer, a Black female from Memphis.
She was found unresponsive, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound, and was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding fire personnel.
The initial discovery launched a homicide investigation by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office detectives. For over a year, investigators worked diligently to piece together the events that led to Ta'Lesha's untimely death. Their extensive investigation eventually pointed toward one individual, 30-year-old Nigel Farmer. As the investigation progressed, law enforcement officials gathered enough evidence to secure an arrest warrant for Nigel Farmer on the charge of first-degree murder.
The pursuit of justice for Ta'Lesha Farmer crossed state lines. Investigative leads developed by the Memphis Safe Task Force tracked Nigel Farmer to Omaha, Nebraska, where he had recently relocated. On November 19, 2025, more than a year after the fatal shooting, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Metro Fugitive Task Force located and apprehended Nigel Farmer in Omaha. He was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held in Nebraska as a fugitive from justice. He awaits extradition back to Shelby County, Tennessee, where he will face the charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Ta'Lesha Farmer.
