On a winter evening in Kingsport, Tennessee, the life of 18-year-old Dylan W. Ferguson was tragically cut short. On January 9, 2015, Ferguson was fatally shot in an apartment complex in an incident that also left his 23-year-old stepsister, Amber Purifoy, with critical injuries.
The events of that night prompted an immediate investigation by the Kingsport Police Department. Their work quickly led them to identify a suspect in the violent encounter.
However, the pursuit of justice took a somber turn when the individual sought in connection with the shooting took his own life as authorities were moving in to make an arrest. The case, therefore, concluded without a trial, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss of a young man.
