In the Orebank community of Kingsport, Tennessee, the life of Rickey D. Busick, a 45-year-old White male, was cut short on May 12, 2021. Busick was fatally shot in an incident that stunned the local community. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, bystanders took swift action, detaining a female suspect until law enforcement could arrive.
The woman taken into custody by deputies was identified as 31-year-old Rachel Joann Wells.
Following the initial investigation into Busick's death, Wells was charged with first-degree murder. She was subsequently booked into the Sullivan County Jail, where she was held on a $1 million bond as the legal process began to unfold.
