On a spring afternoon in Kingsport, Tennessee, a dispute between two truck drivers on the shoulder of Interstate 81 escalated into a fatal roadside shooting. Alex Erik Miller, a 42-year-old male from Edgewood, Maryland, was killed in the altercation on May 20, 2022. The incident began when Miller's northbound tractor-trailer and another semi-truck made contact near the Airport Parkway exit.
Following the minor collision, both drivers pulled their vehicles onto the shoulder of the
interstate. An argument ensued between Miller and the other driver, a 34-year-old man. The confrontation intensified, tragically culminating in the 34-year-old driver shooting and killing Miller.
The Kingsport Police Department responded to the scene and began an investigation into the shooting. The other driver involved in the incident remained at the scene and was reported to be cooperating with the authorities. At the time of the initial reports, his identity was not publicly released.
Detectives with the Kingsport Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division were tasked with piecing together the events that led to the deadly encounter.
