In the late summer of 2015, a tragedy unfolded in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, cutting short the life of a promising young man. Mason Loupe, a 15-year-old male, was a student at Siegel High School where he was known as a member of both the football and wrestling teams. His life, however, took a devastating turn on the evening of Saturday, August 29, 2015. On that day, Murfreesboro Police responded to a call at a residence on Overall Court shortly after 6:00 p.m. and discovered that the teenager had sustained a single gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported the critically injured youth to the emergency room at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Due to the severity of his injury, he was subsequently transferred to the Vanderbilt Trauma Center. There, medical staff placed him in a medically induced coma in an effort to combat the swelling on his brain. Despite the efforts of the medical team, Mason Loupe succumbed to his injury and passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2015.
The initial investigation into the shooting by Murfreesboro Police detectives led them to believe that foul play was not suspected in the incident. The case, however, remained under investigation to determine the precise circumstances that led to the fatal gunshot wound. The loss of the young athlete was deeply felt within the community, particularly at Siegel High School, where arrangements were made to have extra counselors available to support students and staff grappling with the sudden and tragic death of their classmate and friend. In a final act of generosity, Mason Loupe's family made the decision to donate his organs, a choice that had the potential to save the lives of eight other individuals.
