In the early morning hours of April 18, 2016, the quiet community of Coalfield, Tennessee, was rattled by a brutal crime that would remain a mystery for years. James 'Pete' McCarroll, a 71-year-old male, was found dead outside his workplace, Allied Metal Recovery and Refining on Gouge Hollow Road. His body was discovered by co-workers between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., bearing the horrific signs of a violent struggle; he had been severely beaten and shot at least once.
