In the early hours of July 20, 2016, in Kingsport, Tennessee, the life of 25-year-old Zaccari A. Miller was cut short by a fatal gunshot. The incident occurred at a residence on Donelson Drive where Miller was visiting. He was a man known to love his family, the outdoors, hunting, and fishing.
Officers were dispatched to the scene around 2:00 AM following a report of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Miller just inside the front door with a gunshot wound to the back of his head or neck. Another man, Quinten A. Shelton, was present in the living room with blood on his hands and shirt, though he himself was uninjured.
The investigation that followed revealed that Miller and Shelton were acquaintances who had gotten into an argument while at the residence. During the dispute, Shelton allegedly produced a handgun and shot Miller. In an attempt to obstruct the investigation, Shelton then placed the firearm in Miller's hand before police arrived. However, his conflicting accounts of the event and the evidence at the scene led detectives to uncover his deception.
Quinten A. Shelton was subsequently arrested and faced charges of Second Degree Murder and Tampering with Evidence. He was taken into custody and booked into the Kingsport City Jail to await his arraignment.
