On a summer evening in Kingsport, Tennessee, the life of 23-year-old Marc Tierre Lee Woodbury, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On July 28, 2014, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a shooting incident unfolded at a residence on Dale Street. When Kingsport Police Patrol Officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Woodbury in the backyard, suffering from gunshot wounds. Another victim, Brandon D. Harris, had already been transported to a local hospital by a private vehicle.
Both men were rushed into medical care, but Woodbury succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Harris sustained life-threatening injuries but ultimately survived after undergoing emergency surgery.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led detectives to identify a suspect: Lucky Anthony 'Ant' Ross. A warrant was issued for his arrest, charging him with first-degree murder for the death of Woodbury and attempted first-degree murder for the shooting of Harris. Ross, who was 37 years old at the time, was also charged with employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was considered armed and dangerous, prompting a multi-agency effort to locate him.
After a little over a month on the run, Ross was apprehended. On September 2, 2014, he was located and arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was taken into custody without incident and held in the Mecklenburg County Jail to await extradition back to Tennessee to face the charges against him.
In February 2016, Lucky Anthony Ross appeared in a Sullivan County courtroom where he accepted a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Marc Tierre Lee Woodbury and the attempted first-degree murder of Brandon D. Harris. As a result of his guilty plea, a judge sentenced him to serve 40 years in prison.
