In the Hickory Hill neighborhood of Memphis on the night of March 11, 2017, a violent encounter cut short the life of 26-year-old Antreze Cortez Broadie-Franklin. A Black / African American male, Broadie-Franklin was a local rapper known by the name 'Young Treze.' His death left a void in the lives of his family, including his five children.
Earlier that Saturday evening, shortly before 10 p.m., Broadie-Franklin was behind the wheel of his Dodge Magnum at a corner store on Mendenhall
Road. It was then that two unidentified men, described as wearing black hoodies and jeans, unleashed a barrage of gunfire into his vehicle. In a desperate attempt to escape the assault, Broadie-Franklin drove to a nearby McDonald's parking lot.
Tragically, his efforts to flee were in vain. When authorities arrived at the McDonald's, they found Broadie-Franklin deceased in his car. Two other passengers in the vehicle had also sustained gunshot wounds but survived the attack. There were also children in the car at the time of the shooting, but they were unharmed.
In the aftermath, the community and his loved ones mourned the loss of a man remembered for his magnetic personality. His mother, Edith Broadie Mason, made a public plea for justice for her son and his children, expressing her deep pain and faith. Despite the ongoing investigation into the homicide, the two suspects who fled the scene were never apprehended, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Antreze Broadie-Franklin. The case remains an unsolved act of violence that silenced a voice in the Memphis music scene and left a family grappling with an unanswered loss.
