On a Sunday evening in March of 2019, the city of Memphis was marked by a burst of violence that claimed the life of 40-year-old Gary Ballard, a Black male. The incident, which unfolded on March 24th in the North Memphis community of Hyde Park, was a triple shooting that left two other individuals in critical condition. Family members at the scene later confirmed that two of the victims were related.
Emergency services were dispatched to the location of the shooting, where they
discovered three people suffering from gunshot wounds. Ballard succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. The shooting sent ripples of grief and concern through the local community, as another life was tragically cut short by gun violence.
