In the late afternoon of November 20, 2017, the life of 28-year-old Rayquan Hudson-Lyle, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Clarksville, Tennessee. He was on the front porch of his residence located in the 200 block of Mitchell Street when he was fatally shot. Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after 4 p.m., and Hudson-Lyle was initially transported to Tennova Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
For years, the investigation into his death remained
without a public breakthrough, becoming one of thirteen cold case murders being handled by the Clarksville Police Department. Law enforcement officials made public appeals for any information that could lead to an arrest, highlighting the need for community assistance to bring a sense of justice to Hudson-Lyle's family and the other victims of unsolved homicides. His case was a source of profound and ongoing grief for his loved ones, particularly his father, who publicly spoke about the struggle to find forgiveness while yearning for justice for his son.
A significant development in the case finally came in October 2022, nearly five years after the shooting. Authorities announced the arrest of Shamar Blount, who was charged with first-degree felony murder in connection with Hudson-Lyle's death. At the same time, it was revealed that another individual, Khavell Williams, was also facing the same charge. At the time of Blount's arrest, Williams was reportedly incarcerated in another state facility. Following these arrests, police indicated that the investigation was still active and that more arrests were anticipated.
