In the winter of 2017, the life of 18-year-old Wayne Boswell, a Black male from Memphis, Tennessee, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Friday, December 15th, events unfolded that would leave a family grieving and a community searching for answers. The Memphis Police Department received a call reporting gunfire in the 3500 block of Walnut Grove Road. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Boswell lying on the ground, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
From the outset, investigators treated Boswell's death as a homicide, believing the shooting was not a random act of violence but rather a targeted attack. Detectives began exploring several potential motives as they pieced together the circumstances leading to his death.
