In the early morning hours of September 23, 2014, the life of 39-year-old Charlie Dunham, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Memphis, Tennessee. Dunham was discovered shot in the head at 6 a.m. on Bethay and Belmont Run Cove. His 2006 silver Hummer H3 was also reported stolen in connection with the incident. Authorities, including the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, began a homicide investigation and sought the public's help in locating the vehicle and any potential suspects.
The
investigation led to the identification of a suspect, Kobie Hope. It was revealed that at the time of Dunham's death, Hope was out on a reduced bond for a previous aggravated assault charge. Hope's bond had been lowered from $100,000 to $75,000, which he paid, securing his release just five days before he allegedly shot and killed Dunham. The circumstances surrounding Hope's release on a reduced bond drew scrutiny in the wake of Dunham's death. Friends and family of Charlie Dunham remembered him as a talented individual, with interests as a musician, barber, and mechanic.
