On a cold January night in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 33-year-old Jonathan Fullerton, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. On January 8, 2022, Fullerton and a passenger, 44-year-old Eric Lesure, were traveling eastbound on Interstate 240 in a gray Infiniti. Near the Millbranch Road exit, their vehicle was suddenly riddled with gunfire.
The unexpected assault caused their car to veer off the highway, crashing through a fence and coming to a rest on Corporate Avenue below.
First responders initially treated the scene as a car accident. It was only upon closer inspection that they discovered both Jonathan Fullerton and Eric Lesure had been ejected from the vehicle and had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. The initial crash report quickly turned into a double homicide investigation, leaving a community in shock and two families heartbroken.
In the days that followed, family members remembered Jonathan Fullerton as a loving husband and father who worked at Amazon and had a passion for music. His wife, Christie, and his father, David, spoke of their immeasurable grief and confusion, describing Jonathan as a happy person who loved to make others laugh and would not have done anything to provoke such a violent act. They, along with the family of Eric Lesure, pleaded with the public for any information that could lead to the capture of those responsible.
Despite their pleas and an ongoing investigation by the Memphis Police Department, no suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been made in the double homicide.
