In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 23-year-old Simi Girley was tragically cut short. On May 12, 2013, at approximately 2:30 a.m., police responded to a call of a possible shooting in the 5000 block of Steuben. Upon their arrival, they discovered Girley, a Black male, in the driver's seat of his 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
He had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses at the time reported hearing several gunshots and seeing a gray vehicle leaving the area shortly after the incident. Despite these initial leads, the investigation into Simi Girley's murder did not immediately result in any arrests. The case, like many others in a city grappling with violent crime, eventually went cold.
Years later, Girley's homicide remains unsolved. His case is now in the hands of the Memphis Police Department's Cold Case Unit, where detectives and forensic experts periodically revisit unsolved murders in the hope that new evidence or advancements in technology, such as DNA analysis, might lead to a breakthrough. Law enforcement agencies continue to seek assistance from the community, understanding that a small piece of information could be the key to bringing justice for Simi Girley and closure to his family.
