In the summer of 2018, the life of 24-year-old Quintin Brooks, a male resident of Nashville, Tennessee, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 10th, Brooks was found fatally shot in a car parked in the lot of the McFerrin Community Center on Grace Street. The incident, which would later be classified as a homicide, set in motion a police investigation to bring the person responsible to justice.
Authorities identified a suspect, Travis Harris, who was 30 years old at the time.
Harris was apprehended and taken into custody on July 29, 2018, and subsequently charged with the murder of Quintin Brooks. Following his arrest, Harris, who was on parole for a prior aggravated robbery conviction from 2011, was incarcerated at the Hardeman County Correctional Facility to continue serving his sentence while awaiting trial for the new charges.
The legal proceedings took an unexpected turn in July 2021. Due to a miscommunication regarding a detainer for his murder charge, Travis Harris was inadvertently released from custody. A public alert was issued as law enforcement sought assistance in locating the accused murderer, who was considered armed and dangerous. The search, however, was short-lived, as Harris surrendered himself to the authorities late on the night of July 24, 2021, at the Criminal Warrants Division.
After his recapture, the judicial process against Travis Harris moved forward. He was ultimately convicted of the first-degree premeditated murder of Quintin Brooks. In addition to the murder conviction, Harris was also found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The court affirmed the judgments, ensuring that he would be held accountable for the violent death of Quintin Brooks.
