On April 28, 2023, at approximately 4:28 p.m., 46-year-old Gerges A. Youssef was fatally shot while driving his black Honda CR-V southbound on Briley Parkway in Nashville, Tennessee. Youssef had left work shortly before the incident and was within a mile of his home when the shooting occurred. His vehicle, bearing multiple bullet holes on both sides, struck a guardrail and veered into a grassy area before coming to rest on Envious Lane.
He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation led by the Metro Nashville Police Department revealed that the shooting resulted from an ongoing dispute between Youssef and a former coworker, 62-year-old George Megalaa. Surveillance footage from a business on Briley Parkway captured a white Volkswagen SUV, matching the description of Megalaa's vehicle, speeding away from the scene shortly after the gunfire. Additionally, cellphone records indicated that Megalaa's phone was near Youssef's workplace in Goodlettsville on the afternoon of the shooting and followed the same route as Youssef afterward.
On May 5, 2023, authorities arrested Megalaa outside his residence on Mooregate Drive, charging him with criminal homicide for Youssef's death. The arrest concluded a week-long investigation into the fatal shooting, highlighting the role of surveillance technology and digital evidence in resolving the case.
