In the summer of 2018, the life of 23-year-old Deion Woodruff was cut short in a fatal shooting in Nashville, Tennessee. On the evening of August 8th, a police officer on patrol discovered Woodruff's body lying on the ground at the intersection of 32nd Avenue North and Clifton Avenue. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was unresponsive. Medical assistance was rendered, and he was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Investigators determined that Woodruff had been shot inside a vehicle and then pushed out onto the pavement.
The investigation into the male's death unfolded over the course of two years, culminating in the indictment of two suspects in July 2020. Donald L. Brown, 24, and DeAnthony Fletcher, 25, were charged with first-degree murder. The motive for the killing is believed to be retaliation for a separate murder that Woodruff was a suspect in at the time of his death. A few hours after Woodruff's body was found, the car believed to be connected to his shooting, a 2016 Hyundai Sonata belonging to Fletcher, was discovered engulfed in flames on Holly Tree Gap Road in Williamson County. The vehicle's license plate and VIN number had been removed, leading to an additional charge of evidence tampering for Fletcher.
At the time of his death, Woodruff was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Marqondis Thompson inside a Nashville hookah bar on May 1, 2018. Following the indictments in Woodruff's case, Brown was arrested in Nashville and jailed on a $200,000 bond. Fletcher was already incarcerated in a federal penitentiary in Illinois on unrelated charges at the time of his indictment and was slated to be booked in Nashville at a later date.
