In a tragic incident on May 10, 2019, 16-year-old Mina Fawzy, a male resident of Antioch, Tennessee, was fatally shot inside his home on Swan Ridge Drive. Police responded to a shooting call around 4:50 p.m. and discovered Fawzy deceased next to his bed with a wound to his neck or head area.
Investigations by South Precinct detectives revealed a heartbreaking story of horseplay that turned fatal. Fawzy was with two 15-year-old friends when the shooting occurred.
The three teenagers were reportedly playing with a gun that had been stolen from a car in the neighborhood. One of the 15-year-olds told police he believed the firearm was unloaded. He admitted to pulling the slide back and releasing it, at which point the gun discharged, striking and killing Fawzy.
Following an investigation and interviews with the suspect and the other 15-year-old witness, the shooter was taken into custody. Due to his age, his name has not been publicly released. He was charged with reckless homicide for his role in the death of Mina Fawzy. The incident served as a grim reminder of the dangers of firearms in the hands of unsupervised youths.
