On the evening of July 16, 2020, 23-year-old Tykeem Franklin was shot and killed inside his own apartment on Pebble Creek Circle in Antioch, Tennessee. The grim discovery was made by his roommate, who returned home with food to find Franklin deceased on the living room floor.
Investigators quickly determined that robbery was the likely motive behind the fatal shooting.
Their investigation was aided by surveillance footage from the apartment complex, which captured images of four young men walking toward Franklin's residence just before the time of his death. South Precinct detectives released these images to the public, asking for assistance in identifying the individuals who they believed had crucial knowledge about the murder.
Through tips provided to Crime Stoppers, authorities were able to identify two of the men as 21-year-old Kenneth Flenoy and 19-year-old Daunte Young. Murder warrants were promptly issued for both suspects, who were believed to have fled to either the South Nashville or Rutherford County areas. In a subsequent turn of events, both Flenoy and Young surrendered to police separately and were taken into custody on the outstanding murder warrants. They are being held without bond while awaiting a hearing. The other two individuals seen in the surveillance video have been identified by police, but they are not currently facing charges in connection with Franklin's death.
