In the early morning hours of June 19, 2019, a meeting between two acquaintances in a McDonald's parking lot in Antioch, Tennessee, ended in tragedy. Yaki 'Moochie' Sayles, a 26-year-old male, was shot and later succumbed to his injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. at the restaurant located at 5301 Hickory Hollow Lane.
According to a witness who was in the drive-thru lane, Sayles was seen engaged in a conversation with another
man in the parking lot, standing outside their respective vehicles. The witness then heard a gunshot and saw Sayles fall to the pavement. Immediately after the shot, a late model blue four-door sedan was seen fleeing the area. South Precinct detectives began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
The investigation, led by Detective Phil Klarer, identified Ladarrius Wimberly, 23, a convicted robber, as the suspect in Sayles' murder. It was determined that Wimberly and Sayles knew each other and had arranged to meet in the parking lot, although the reason for their meeting remains under investigation. Subsequently, a grand jury indicted Wimberly on a charge of first-degree murder.
At the time the indictment was issued for the murder of Yaki Sayles, Wimberly was already incarcerated. He was being held in jail in connection with the armed robbery of two construction workers that had occurred on August 12 of that same year. Wimberly has a prior criminal record, including a conviction on two counts of robbery in July 2018, for which he had received a three-year sentence. He is currently jailed without bond for the murder of Yaki Sayles.
