In the early morning hours of September 30, 2020, Nicholas Jamel Howard, a 21-year-old Black male from Covington, Tennessee, was shot and killed. The fatal incident occurred on the Hatchie River Bridge, just north of the Tipton County line. Another man, Chris Howard, was also injured in the shooting.
