On the evening of March 11, 2021, a sense of normalcy was shattered at the Broadmeadows Apartments on Peeler Road in Covington, Tennessee. Inside a car, 23-year-old Andrew Terry was shot and fatally wounded. First responders and law enforcement arrived at the scene around 10:50 p.m. to find Terry suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead.
The young man, who was a graduate of Brighton High School and had been honorably discharged from the Army National Guard, was remembered by his family as a good and obedient son. He had recently shared the joyous news with his family that he and his girlfriend were expecting their first child.
The investigation into Andrew Terry’s death quickly pointed to a suspect, a young man named Davarious Taylor, who was 19 years old at the time of the incident. A warrant for Taylor's arrest on the charge of first-degree murder was issued the day after the shooting, on March 12, 2021. Authorities considered Taylor to be armed and dangerous, which prompted a determined search by law enforcement. The U.S. Marshals Service joined the effort, offering a cash reward for information that would lead to his capture.
For weeks, Davarious Taylor managed to evade authorities. His time as a fugitive came to an end on May 17, 2021. Acting on information, the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force, in collaboration with the Covington Police Department, tracked Taylor to an apartment in Covington. He was taken into custody without incident and formally charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Andrew Terry. Following his arrest, it was also revealed that a relative of Taylor's was charged with harboring him during the time he was evading law enforcement.
