On October 8, 2023, 22-year-old Harkeem Kirby of Mason, Tennessee, was fatally shot in Covington. Early that morning, Covington Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire near Bluebird Road and Loon Lane. Upon arrival, they were directed to the 200 block of Loon Lane, where they discovered Kirby inside a black GMC Yukon that had veered off the road and collided with a house.
