In Nashville, Tennessee, on the evening of December 17, 2020, a dispute over money between two acquaintances escalated into a fatal encounter. Jamaal Zakiya, a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot inside his own Tanglewood Court apartment around 6:30 p.m. The conflict had reportedly been brewing throughout the day and came to a tragic head when Zakiya refused to give the other man a ride home without receiving gas money.
The investigation swiftly identified 20-year-old Kardeceo Dardy as
the suspect in Zakiya's murder. An arrest warrant was issued, charging Dardy with criminal homicide. For a few days, his whereabouts remained unknown as authorities sought information from the public.
Three days after the shooting, on December 20, 2020, Kardeceo Dardy surrendered to authorities at the Criminal Warrants Division. He was taken into custody and formally charged with criminal homicide for the death of Jamaal Zakiya. At the time of this arrest, Dardy was also facing a separate charge for evading arrest from an incident in 2019.
