Steven Murray, a 48-year-old male, was fatally shot on the evening of July 30, 2017, in Nashville, Tennessee. The incident occurred outside of Bud's Market on Buchanan Street as Murray was backing out of a parking space. He was shot in the head.
Following the shooting, the gunman was initially at large. Investigations by the Metro Police led to the arrest of 18-year-old Michael Newsom on August 12, 2017.
According to law enforcement, Murray had left the market at the same time as another man who entered an adjacent vehicle. It was from this car that Newsom is reported to have fired the fatal shot. The motive for the killing was not immediately clear.
Newsom was charged with criminal homicide and was held on a $350,000 bond. An obituary for Steven D. Murray, of Franklin, was published in The Tennessean on August 3, 2017, confirming his age.
