In Nashville, Tennessee, on February 16, 2021, a 21-year-old woman named Cortney Nichole Moyers was tragically killed. A mother to a young daughter, Cortney was known to be a hard worker, employed at Domino's Pizza. She grew up in Old Hickory, where she enjoyed playing softball in her youth.
The incident that led to Cortney's untimely death occurred inside her apartment on Ewing Drive.
She was discovered with a gunshot wound to her head and was later pronounced dead at Skyline Medical Center. The shooting happened during an argument with her fiancé, Brandon Dement, who was 28 at the time.
According to Dement, the sole witness to the event, he was holding a pistol under his chin with his finger on the trigger when Moyers tried to grab his arm. He claimed this caused the firearm to discharge, striking her in the head. Following an investigation by the Metro Nashville Police Department, Brandon Dement was arrested and charged with criminal homicide in connection with Cortney's death. He was held without bond in Nashville's downtown jail pending a hearing. Cortney's death was recorded as the 19th criminal homicide of the year in Nashville, leaving her family and friends devastated as they continue to seek justice.
