In the early evening of September 1, 2020, a tragedy unfolded in Nashville, Tennessee, that cut short the life of 35-year-old Michelle Gardner. A Black/African American female, Gardner was seated on the stoop near her apartment at the RiverChase Apartments on Joseph Avenue in the East Nashville neighborhood around 8:30 p.m. It was then that the scene was shattered by the sound of gunfire.
