In the spring of 2020, the life of 35-year-old LaKayla Garrett, a Black/African American female, was tragically cut short in Nashville, Tennessee. On the evening of March 25th, between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., her body was discovered lying in the grass near the intersection of Herman Street and 24th Avenue North. Garrett had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities from the Metro Nashville Police Department's North Precinct immediately launched
an investigation into the shooting. Evidence recovered from the scene indicated that several shots had been fired. A bag of marijuana was also found near Garrett's body, though the motive for the killing remains unknown. According to a witness, Garrett was seen walking alone on Herman Street just moments before the gunshots were heard. Nashville Fire Department personnel who were driving in the area were the first to find her.
Despite the ongoing efforts of law enforcement, including the Nashville Cold Case Homicide Unit, no arrests have been made in connection with LaKayla Garrett's murder. The case remains an active and unsolved investigation. Authorities have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for her death. A cash reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest through Crime Stoppers, allowing callers to remain anonymous.
