In the autumn of 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace of a Nashville neighborhood, tragically ending the life of 16-year-old Ja’Niya Birdsong, an African American female. The incident, which occurred on September 26 in the driveway of her grandmother's home on Eckhart Drive, also left a 17-year-old girl with non-life-threatening injuries. Birdsong was a junior at Hillsboro High School and had dreams of becoming a hairstylist.
