Ja'Niya Birdsong, a 16-year-old African American girl, was tragically killed on September 26, 2021, in Nashville, Tennessee. She was shot in the driveway of her grandmother's home on Eckhart Drive in South Nashville. The incident occurred during a dispute between Ja'Niya and several young men, which escalated into gunfire. A 17-year-old relative of Ja'Niya was also wounded in the shooting but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
