In the early morning hours of Sunday, December 13, 2020, the city of Tempe, Arizona, was disturbed by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 1:00 a.m., Tempe Police officers were dispatched to the area of 4100 South Mill Avenue following a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man lying with gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as Detrick Stanford, a 48-year-old Black or African American male.
Emergency medical aid was rendered at the scene, but tragically, Stanford succumbed to his injuries. The incident was quickly classified as a homicide, and an investigation was launched to uncover the events that led to the fatal shooting.
Despite the ongoing investigation by the Tempe Police Department, a suspect has not yet been publicly identified. Investigators have been appealing to the public for any information regarding the incident that could lead to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for Detrick Stanford's death. To encourage potential witnesses to come forward, a reward of up to $2,000 has been offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and a motive remain part of the active and open investigation.
