In the spring of 2021, a violent altercation on a Nashville street tragically cut short the life of Linda K. Adams McMurry, a 59-year-old woman. On the evening of March 21st, McMurry was a passenger in the backseat of a car being driven by her son. An argument and physical fight had broken out on Fain Street involving her son and his girlfriend with other individuals.
Following the dispute, as McMurry’s son and his girlfriend got back into the vehicle, an assailant opened fire on the
car. Unbeknownst to her son at that moment, his mother had been struck by the gunfire. He drove away from the scene to a truck stop on West Trinity Lane, where he made the devastating discovery that his mother was unresponsive. Emergency services were called, and Linda McMurry was rushed to Skyline Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.
The investigation into the senseless killing was led by the Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit. Less than a month later, on April 6, 2021, detectives made an arrest in the case. Jenara Higgins, 44, was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Linda McMurry. During an interview with investigators, Higgins implicated himself in the homicide.
Further evidence connecting Higgins to the crime came from ballistics testing. Shell casings recovered from the scene of McMurry's murder were a match to those found at the scene of a previous shooting in December 2020 on the same street, where a 29-year-old woman had been injured. Higgins was already a suspect in that earlier aggravated assault case. He is currently being held without bond pending a hearing.
