On a Monday afternoon, the 19th of February, 2018, a confrontation in Nashville, Tennessee, turned deadly, claiming the life of 25-year-old Marquice Miles, an African American male. The incident unfolded around 3 p.m. at the intersection of 12th Avenue North and Jefferson Street, a location that would become the backdrop for a senseless act of violence. Miles had arrived at this intersection to pick up his children from his ex-girlfriend.
She was not alone; she was accompanied by her then-boyfriend, Capius Maclin Jr., and another man, Otis Maclin Jr.
What began as a meeting between parents escalated into a physical altercation between Miles and Capius Maclin Jr. As the two men fought, Otis Maclin Jr. intervened, tragically escalating the conflict by shooting Marquice Miles twice in the chest. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, both Capius and Otis Maclin Jr. fled the scene, leaving Miles mortally wounded. The community was left in shock, and a family was left to grieve the sudden and violent loss of a loving son and father.
A few days later, as family and friends prepared for a candlelight vigil to honor Marquice's memory, Capius Maclin Jr. surrendered to the authorities. His brother, Otis Maclin Jr., the alleged gunman, remained at large. The Metro Nashville Police Department actively pursued leads in their search for him. Subsequently, a Davidson County Grand Jury indicted Otis Maclin Jr. on multiple charges, including second-degree murder, aggravated assault, vandalism, and being a felon in possession of a weapon. Law enforcement officials publicly asked for assistance in locating him, urging anyone with information to come forward.
