In a tragic turn of events on the night of November 26, 2021, 15-year-old Tavarius Sherrell was killed in a violent home invasion in Nashville, Tennessee. The male teenager was fatally shot alongside his 18-year-old brother, Zacquez Sherrell, when two armed men entered their family's apartment on Torbett Street. The deadly encounter also left their mother and three other siblings wounded by gunfire.
The assailants, identified as Christian Akail Johnson, 29, and Keno Lane, 30, reportedly
knocked on the door of the Sherrell residence before forcing their way inside. A barrage of gunfire ensued, resulting in the deaths of the two brothers and one of the suspects, Johnson. The Sherrells' 40-year-old mother, two sisters, ages 16 and 20, and their 13-year-old brother all sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the attack.
Investigators believe the motive for the home invasion was robbery. Three firearms were recovered from the scene. Following an investigation, the surviving suspect, Keno Lane, was apprehended by TITANS Unit detectives in September 2022. He was taken into custody after exiting a residence on Kirkpatrick Street and was subsequently charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and especially aggravated burglary based on a grand jury indictment. A Criminal Court judge ordered that Lane be held without bond.
