In the quiet town of Clarksville, Tennessee, the life of Sothon In, a 38-year-old Cambodian-American U.S. Army veteran, came to a tragic and violent end on January 3, 2022. He was found deceased in the bedroom of his Ladd Drive home with a fatal gunshot wound to his head. His wife, Theary Lim, who was 32 at the time, was discovered at the scene, lying unresponsive but breathing on the living room floor and was subsequently hospitalized.
Initial investigations by the Clarksville Police Department's Special Operations Homicide Unit quickly suggested that the wound was not self-inflicted. The turning point in the case came from the home's own security footage. The video captured troubling scenes from the day of Sothon In's death, showing Theary Lim pacing through the living room, at times holding a semi-automatic handgun and a knife. This crucial piece of evidence contradicted the narrative of an accidental shooting that Lim would later claim. Approximately nine hours elapsed between the time of the shooting, captured on video, and when the police were finally called to the residence.
Following her release from the hospital, Theary Lim was arrested and charged with criminal homicide. During a preliminary hearing, it was revealed that Lim had claimed the shooting was an accident, stating that the gun discharged while she was playing with it in bed next to her husband. However, her actions following the incident, as seen on the security footage, and her failure to notify emergency services, cast a long shadow of doubt on her account.
