On a Saturday evening in Nashville, Tennessee, the life of 22-year-old Jerious D. Johnson was tragically cut short. On April 30, 2022, in the rear parking lot of the West Park Community Center on Morrow Road, Johnson was fatally shot. The young African American man was found by police responding to a call of shots fired at approximately 6:20 p.m. He was on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the shooting was not a random act of violence. According to the preliminary investigation, Johnson was a passenger in a black SUV that pulled up alongside a red pickup truck in the community center's parking lot. Shortly after the two vehicles were near each other, gunfire erupted. Following the shooting, both the black SUV and the red pickup truck fled the area, leaving Johnson behind.
In the days following the shooting, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit and its TITANS detectives announced they were pursuing strong leads in the case. However, despite their initial optimism, there has been no public announcement of any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the murder of Jerious Johnson.
