Sub-Patrolman Andrew J. Kelly, aged 29, was shot and killed on October 4, 1903, while investigating a disturbance near the Lincoln Avenue Bridge in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Kelly, who served with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for three years, was assigned to a plainclothes detail in response to recent thefts at a local business.
