On June 15, 1905, Officer Adam J. Hein, a 43-year-old white male, tragically lost his life in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania. Born in Germany in January 1863, he had dedicated 18 years to serving with the Allegheny City Police Department. On that fateful day, Officer Hein entered a hardware store located at 865 East Ohio Street, near Chestnut Street, to procure ammunition for his service revolver.
