In the city of Reading, Pennsylvania, a young man's life was tragically cut short in an act of violence. On the evening of September 12, 2023, 18-year-old Dominic E. Amsbaugh, a White male from Hamburg, was shot in the 1100 block of Amity Street, near the 11th and Pike Playground. He was rushed to Reading Hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The Reading Police Department launched an intensive investigation into the shooting. Their efforts quickly led them to identify a 16-year-old male as the primary suspect. Just three days after the fatal shooting, on September 15, 2023, authorities located the juvenile suspect in the 1100 block of Scott Street. The Reading Police, with the assistance of the Berks County Emergency Response Team, coordinated an operation that resulted in the suspect's peaceful surrender.

Due to the gravity of the crime, the 16-year-old was charged as an adult with first-degree and third-degree murder, in addition to other related offenses. While the suspect's name has not been publicly released because he is a minor, the decision to charge him as an adult underscores the serious nature of the incident. The community mourned the loss of Dominic, with a GoFundMe campaign established to assist his family with funeral expenses. The investigation into the motive and the specific events that led to the tragic shooting remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek justice for Dominic Amsbaugh.
