In the early morning hours of Halloween 2017, a 17-year-old Hispanic male named Isaiah Alberto Colon was found injured in Reading, Pennsylvania. City patrol officers discovered him near Moss and Spring streets around 2 a.m. and he was transported to Reading Hospital. There, the young man was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to his upper body.
The investigation into the death of Isaiah, who was remembered by friends as a quiet and fun-loving person, revealed a fatal setup. He had been lured to an area near the drive-thru of a McDonald's under the pretense of a marijuana sale. According to a witness, an accomplice struck and then shot Isaiah while another man, 18-year-old Capreece Q. Sudler, stood by and watched. The two then robbed Isaiah of a small quantity of marijuana before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Sudler was arrested and faced charges of second- and third-degree murder. Another individual, Johnathan Delacruz, was also implicated in the crime. During the robbery attempt, while trying to pistol-whip Isaiah, Delacruz's firearm discharged, firing the fatal shot. Sudler later testified against Delacruz at trial. A jury subsequently convicted Delacruz of second-degree murder, robbery, and criminal conspiracy for his role in Isaiah's death. For the murder conviction, he received a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
