Charles Edward Cassidy, a 54-year-old male police officer of the Philadelphia Police Department, tragically lost his life on October 31, 2007. Officer Cassidy was checking on a store at the corner of 66th Avenue and Broad Street, which had previously been robbed. Unbeknownst to him, a robbery was in progress inside the store. As he entered, the suspect turned and fired, shooting Officer Cassidy in the head. The suspect then stole Officer Cassidy's service weapon and fled the scene.
