Craig D. Butler, a 43-year-old African American man from Philadelphia, PA, tragically lost his life to gun violence on July 1, 1999. He was visiting a friend on the Fourth of July weekend when he was shot by a 14-year-old boy. The incident occurred after Craig accidentally backed his car into a basketball pole, and despite offering to pay for the damage, he was fatally shot.
