In the quiet early morning hours of December 13, 2013, a long-standing domestic issue in Nether Providence, Pennsylvania, escalated into a tragic and fatal event. Deanna Winkelvoss, a 48-year-old female, became the victim of a violent encounter that ended her life. The incident unfolded in her home on the 400 block of East Country Club Lane in the Wallingford section of the township, a place that should have been her sanctuary.
Police were dispatched to the residence at approximately 3:41 a.m. following reports of a double shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene. Deanna was found in extremely critical condition, having sustained two gunshot wounds. Her estranged husband, 44-year-old Ronald Winkelvoss Jr. of Rose Valley, was also present, having taken his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deanna was rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, but her injuries proved to be too severe. She later succumbed to the gunshot wounds, and her death was officially ruled a homicide by the Delaware County Medical Examiner's Office. The investigation concluded that Ronald Winkelvoss Jr. had returned to the family home that morning and shot Deanna before killing himself, marking the tragic end to what police described as an ongoing domestic dispute.
At the time of the incident, the couple's children were present in the home. The devastating event left behind a grieving family and community. Deanna was remembered as a loving mother to her three children, Ashley, Shawn, and Ronnie. Her funeral services were held at the Church of St. John Chrysostom in Wallingford, and she was laid to rest at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield. The family requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to The Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County. There were no other suspects, and with the death of Ronald Winkelvoss Jr., the case was closed as a murder-suicide.
